Blue shark model

Sharks facts: The Blue Shark Prionace glauca is a type of requiem shark which inhabits coastal and deep waters in the temperate and tropical oceans of the world.  Blue sharks are solitary, migratory animals which are  found in New England waters from May to October.  All sharks have a cartilaginous skeleton, generally elongated body form, an acute sense of smell and layers of teeth which makes them fast, apex predators. Kids love sharks!

Blue sharks are a great model for the classroom! Although blue sharks can grow to 12-13 feet in length, our model is half sized at almost 6 feet with the iconic stiff dorsal fin.  It  comes with a wooden stand for display and a heavy duty zipper on one side.  Open the zipper to find  the spiral digestive system, two huge lobes of liver, stiff gill rakers and the uterus with developing young. Blue sharks give live birth to fully functional young who practice intrauterine cannibalism or ovophagy (where the embryonic sharks eat each other in utero)- a great discussion starter for any classroom!
